- Severe mental illness or psychiatric disorders (e.g. needle phobia, dental phobia)
- Dental treatment under nitrous oxide (happy gas) or general anaesthetics (in hospital)
- Transition care: when a teenager/ young adult is transitioning from their paediatric dentist to a specialist in SND.
